The unfortunate inevitable has happened and your appliance is in need of a fix. So now you’re faced with the decision of who to trust for repair. With numerous options at your fingertips, this can be a difficult decision to make at first. But when you know what you should be looking for in a quality appliance repair company, it becomes much easier. Here are some things to know about an appliance repair company before hiring them:

Things to Know About an Appliance Repair Company

1. What’s their track record?

There are several ways to do this. Check for customer reviews on websites like Google, Yelp, and Angie’s List. This will give you an indication of previous customer experiences with the company.

Another way to get an idea of the company’s reputation is to see if they accept credit cards, whether you plan to use one for the repair or not. Credit card companies do an extensive background check on businesses before allowing them to accept their cards as payment. Therefore, appliance repair companies with a spotty history may not be able to accept credit cards.

2. Do they offer a warranty or guarantee on their work? Are they bonded and insured?

A company that stands by their work lets you rest easy about your decision. Search the company website to see if they offer a written warranty on parts and/or their labor. It’s also a good idea to inquire if they are bonded and insured in the rare cases of injury or damage to property (otherwise you could be held liable).

3. What specific training have their repair technicians received?

Quality appliance repair companies will be happy to share their training qualifications. This will also give you an idea if they are experienced and properly trained in repairing your type/brand of appliance.

4. Take the cost of repair into account, but it shouldn’t be the only factor in your decision.

Make sure you’re not sacrificing the quality of the parts and repair by automatically going with the cheapest quote you can find. Having to get your appliance fixed again in the future due to sub par repair could end up costing you more in the long run. Keep the company’s level of experience, reputation, and knowledge in mind when making a decision.

5. For additional peace of mind, ask for references.

If you want additional assurances about the prospective appliance company, don’t be afraid to ask them for references. They should be able to provide business contacts (e.g. real estate agents, warranty companies, property managers) that have used their services and can attest to the quality of their work.
